More High Speed Sketching...

A continuing favorite subject...high speed sketching on the road, as a passenger, that is!
Always a challenge to see how much can be caught in the moment...

Griffith Observatory

There are many wonderful buildings in Los Angeles, but my favorite for many reasons is the Griffith Observatory.  It sits like a crown jewel on a hill north of the city, looking down, as well as up at the stars.  I love the shape, deco-inspired style, and the fact that I, like every Los Angeles child, visited there on a school field trip.  I've sketched it from different locations over the years...and will likely do more...

A view from Sunset Blvd...

...view from a Kaiser waiting room...

Palm Trees

...are one of the most iconic features of this area, and I never
tire of drawing them...Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank and Los Angeles...

Los Angeles Hills

...are one of my favorite subjects for urban sketching!

...from Mt. Washington, I happened to see a brush fire start, and then quickly was extinguished by firefighting helicopters!

Most of the year, our hills are golden brown, but for a fleeting moment in early spring
when they are carpeted in velvet green...

The Los Angeles Landscape...

When I began urban sketching...I focused especially on the physical landscape of Los Angeles, especially at the hilly north end...and the winding freeways...also ordinary views of shopping centers and streets...
